When the Turkey-based app publisher Metareverse realized that all their Play Console, Adsense and Admob accounts were deleted overnight, they were devastated. Find out how they turned it around in this story from Burak Mete Erdoğan, CEO and developer.
We’ve been building mobile apps for iOS and Android for the past 2-3 years, including utility tools like VPN 111, MemeOS Enhancer, Tirin for social networking, and City Routes for city exploration.
Until last year, we had around 12 apps with over 20 million downloads combined.
Then, in January 2024, all our Google accounts — Play Console, AdSense, everything — were deleted. Just like that, we lost it all.
First, they deleted two apps associated with one account. We’re still not sure why, considering there are hundreds of similar apps on the Play Store. After this, multiple app deletions led to a complete account closure.
We had two other company accounts with our remaining apps, but because we were labeled a “malicious developer,” those accounts were also shut down in a domino effect.
In total, three Play Console accounts were closed, wiping out all our apps and dropping our revenue to zero overnight.
Google relies entirely on an automated system to handle developer complaints, which was beyond frustrating. They shut down our accounts, taking down perfectly safe, useful apps downloaded by millions — and didn’t offer any solution. There’s no phone number or email to reach them, and no one in Turkey you can contact.
Giving up wasn’t an option. After the initial shock, we decided to rebuild. We bought new Play Console accounts and re-launched our flagship app, reaching 700,000 downloads. It was just a fraction of the 7 million we originally had, but we were back on track.
Still, we needed a solution that would give us greater control over our revenue streams. This time, we vowed not to put our fate in Google products like AdSense or AdMob again.
Our first move was to try CAS, a programmatic mediation platform. At first, it seemed like the answer we were looking for. But soon, the spammy transition ads started frustrating our users, with intrusive 30-second ads that weren’t right for us. And they CAS didn’t offer open ads, which were a part of our monetization strategy.
Plus, we worried about relying on a small player in the volatile ad tech world, where companies can vanish as quickly as they appear.
We wanted a middle ground between Google’s monopolistic control and the unreliability of smaller platforms. Then we discovered Easy Monetization — and that’s when everything changed.
With Easy Monetization, we found exactly what we were searching for: a platform that respected our need for flexibility and reliability. Yandex’s model lets us integrate both Adblock and Yandex ad packages however we choose — no payout cuts, no compromises on revenue. It was the ultimate game-changer.
Yandex is a reliable partner with consistent payouts, and we’ve seen steady financial flows. Easy Monetization is a fully managed service, so we (finally) get to work with real people. Our account manager is always available, and monetization experts are on hand to help us tackle challenges and fine-tune our strategy.
They’re open to feedback and quick to respond — an absolute must in an industry that changes fast.
We’ve seen a 66% increase in ad revenue since switching to Easy Monetization. We didn’t just recover — we came back stronger.
